Would you like to avoid receiving a notice from your Home Owners Association telling you to paint your house? Many homeowners are receiving letters telling them they need to paint their exterior to avoid fines and possible liens. Why ones home is selected over another is a complete mystery.
One home on a street will receive a notice while others go unnoticed. All the homes are on the same timeline which means, if one is ready for paint most likely the others are too. This tells us that they are selecting homes by appearance.
Here are some tips to avoid being singled out for exterior painting.
- Rinse your home every six to eight weeks. A small power washer would be great but you can also use a hose nozzle. Rinse from the bottom and work your way up. Rinsing from the bottom up will prevent the stucco from becoming stained. Stucco is a very porous surface, if dirty water dries it could stain your home. Rinse in sections, once the water is coming down clear you can move to the next area.
- Avoid using staples or nails on your fascia boards. Most of us can appreciate the Christmas cher. However those festive lights can create issues for your paint. Once you pierce the paint you created an opening for moisture to enter. This can cause your paint to peel, blister or discolor at a faster rate. Use plastic Christmas clips to hang your lights from.
- Keep sprinklers from hitting your house. Water hitting your stucco or painted surface on a daily basis can break the material down quicker, cause discoloration and even promote mold growth. Talk to your landscapers to adjust or move sprinklers away from your home.
- Paint your fascia boards before they are noticed. By simply having your fascia boards painted can help keep your home under the radar. You don’t have to paint your eaves and stucco. Some homes get noticed due to fascia boards faded and weathered. This is the same for front doors, garage doors and shutters. This is highly recommended for darker colors.
If you decide you want to paint your home regardless if you received a notice or not. Make sure quality coatings are being applied like Sherwin Williams Emerald or Benjamin Moore Aura.
